Beware of the Wages Redirection Scam
What is a wage redirection scam and how does it work?
Wage redirection scams occur when a criminal pretends to be an employee at your business and tells you their personal bank details have changed. They will ask you to make future salary payments to a new, but fraudulent account.
What to do if you receive a request for a change of account details
- Treat all requests to change an employee’s account details as suspicious
- Don’t make any changes to the account details until you are certain it is a genuine request by the genuine employee
Please share this information to any of your friends and colleagues who work in a payroll or HR department. This information was passed on to us from NatWest bank. They offer a security centre page where you can report any such fraud and learn about others. They also offer training and support.
You can also seek action by getting in touch with the citizens advice if you are the subject of a wage redirection scam
